Do you know what most of the United States is in January? Cold. Especially for us here in Baltimore. But you know where it’s not so cold? At the Louisiana Marathon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Our highs heading into the new year are around 40 degrees on the best of days, but the capital of the Pelican State is closer to a beautiful 60 degrees.

Just as important as the weather forecast is that the Louisiana Marathon promises a flat, fast course. It takes you through the streets of downtown into the University Lakes and even onto the Louisiana State University campus (Geaux Tigahs). Doesn’t matter which race you want to run — the full, the half, the 5K, or even the Louisiana Quarter Marathon — you should be able to crush your goal time.

Wait, what’s a quarter marathon? Well, a quarter marathon is exactly what it sounds like — a little bit longer than a 10K, but certainly shorter than committing to a half. There aren’t too many other races that we know of with a quarter marathon, so you can brag about the unique distance, if nothing else.

Oh, and the after-party is pretty sweet, too. Maybe not Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street sweet, but the two-day Finish Festival packs as much Louisiana cooking and local music as you can handle. We’re talkin’ jambalaya, multiple gumbos, and crawfish more ways than Bubba could list in Forrest Gump.

The Finish Festival runs following the 5K, Quarter Marathon, and Kids Marathon on Saturday and then picks right back up for the end of the half and full marathons on Sunday morning.

We’re not sure what other swag you can expect when you register, but we can promise you that your miles count towards your Winter GRIT total. You can command at least a few bragging rights in the Facebook and Strava groups — at least we know that’s our goal.
