Fall Fun: Cotopaxi Fall 2021 Collection Review

cotopaxi fall 2021 - feature

What You Need To Know

  • Sustainable and ethical gear with bold colorways and designs
  • Travel packs with incredible storage solutions
  • Fall 2021 collection features ultra-comfortable apparel and packs for any adventure

We first reviewed Cotopaxi gear in the fall of last year, and their apparel and packs frequently became a staple of our wardrobe (and household). Personally, I bought a backpack for my wife for Christmas (the Tasra Del Dia) which she loves, which I then also bought for myself, because it’s the best personal item bag for air travel (it converts from backpack to briefcase-style in seconds). I couldn’t stop there – I also sprung for this summer’s Cotopaxi x Teva collab. Suffice it to say our family trips look like a Broadway revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Now, while Cotopaxi isn’t exactly known for running gear, they certainly have their toes in the run world. Case in point – their backpack collaboration with HOKA earlier this year. Here at Believe in the Run, they’re what we like to call “run adjacent,” (i.e. gear that may not be meant for the run, but that runners will certainly love). We guarantee you’ll love the gear below, from a high-quality cinch bag to laze-around joggers for those post-long run Saturdays.

P.S. Sorry ladies, the women’s Cotopaxi run gear was low in stock so we weren’t able to review this go-around.

Modal Backpack

20L storage capacity | Suspended laptop sleeve (up to 15-inch laptops) | Quick access front pocket

ROBBE: The Modal backpack is a simple and modern pack for daily use. Cotopaxi ditched the traditional big zipper for a cinch top, streamlining the design and challenging the traditional backpack aesthetic. A suspended laptop sleeve holds up to a 15-inch computer, with a side bottle pocket, bottom grab handle, and mesh backing to boot. The Modal is draped in numerous daisy chains for even more quick-access storage and security. Oh, we totally forgot to mention the colors. We love the bold color blocking for all of them, particularly the “Mezcal.” The Modal is the pack built for the everyday.

I personally use this as my daily bike commute bag. It holds my laptop securely in a separate compartment while the daisy chains hold my bike lock on the back. The 20 liter volume is the perfect amount to carry lunch and a change of clothes (and even a pair of shoes). I also appreciate the front pocket and the easy cinch closure.

However, be aware that this indeed is a cinch bag, so don’t get caught in the rain with anything you don’t want to get wet. That said, the zipper on the front pocket is a flatlock seam so should keep your phone dry. One other ding – the should straps are too close together in the middle, which can cause abrasion on the neck if you’re cycling and cinch the bag down super tight. I should also note that while the bag is fantastic for taking to races or the track, it is not good for an actual run commute, as it does not have a waist belt (and on account of the aforementioned strap abrasion).

Teca Fleece Pullover

ROBBE: The Teca Fleece may be one of the most comfortable garments that Cotopaxi has to offer. This cozy pullover comes with a classy snap-closure mock neck for a touch of style. All three colors are great and offer a spectrum from bold to understated, and the horizontal branding stripe is a nice retro touch.  I love me a good handwarmer pocket, and this has one. It’s light on the mind, too, as it’s made of recycled microfleece and polyester. I definitely love the Teca Fleece as a go-to layer after a fall trail run, or as just comfortable outerwear for the winter.

Teca Half-Zip Windbreaker

cotopaxi fall 2021 - jacket

Repurposed polyester taffeta | Packs into drop-in pocket | Kangaroo front pocket

THOMAS: The cousin to the Teca Fleece, the Teca Windbreaker is a versatile layer for straddling the line of cooler temps that warm later in the day. This water-resistant half-zip includes a back panel vent to keep things feeling light and airy. Elastic at the hood, cuffs, and hem tailor the jacket ever-so-slightly to streamline the fit. The Teca Windbreaker’s most practical feature, though, is its packing design. Within seconds, it packs down to a small square that will fit almost anywhere. Fold it down into a drop-in pocket, and this jacket is your best friend on any outdoor adventure.

Lozano Joggers

cotopaxi fall 2021 - fleece pants

Made from a recycled polyester + TENCEL(TM) | Slim fit | Faux fly

THOMAS: The Lozano Jogger is the pinnacle of “run it or lounge it” apparel. Also made from recycled polyester, these joggers are super soft with a slim fit for close-to-skin comfort. The elastic waistband and drawcord allow for a customizable fit that isn’t too loose or too baggy. While a tad quirky, the faux fly (yes, that’s not an actual zipper) adds a touch of sophistication to a garment that’s built purely for comfort. Two zipper pockets serve as reliable storage on the run.

The fit of these are perfect for post-long run lounging or changing into after a race. I’ll definitely be rocking them all fall and winter long.

Cotopaxi x Sunski Treeline Sunglasses

cotopaxi fall 2021 - sunski sunglasses

SuperLight Recycled Frames | Removable Sun Shields | Polarized Lenses

ROBBE: Sunglasses are the hottest collab product out there, and Cotopaxi delivers a fresh pair. In partnership with Sunski, the Treeline sunglasses are sharp-looking spectacles designed for adventures at high elevations and on the water alike.

According to Cotopaxi, they combined the traditional aviator look (which we always love) with the classic glacier goggles to get the Treeline design. Magnetic sun shields on the sides are removable to further protect eyes from glare. The dark lenses are of course polarized, making for a pair of sunglasses that performs as well as it looks.

I do like the style of these, but I will say these don’t make for great running sunglasses. While they do have nose grips, these are probably more reserved for casual use.

PRICE: $89
