ashmei 2 in 1 Short Review

I am a big fan of the quality of all the ashmei products. The materials and attention to detail are tops. I have only received one product from them that I did not like, the original 2 in 1 short. The outer short was long and baggy; the inner compression short was thick and heavy. The shorts were too warm to wear in any temps over 70º F, 21º C. They just weren’t comfortable. At the time I spoke with the contact from Ashmei and offered two choices. One, I can review these on the site and cover the details that I think would improve the product, or two, provide feedback privately. This discussion happens from time to time with products, ten out of ten times the brand will opt for the private feedback. That is what ashmei chose. When Ashmei asked if I wanted to try the new 2 in 1 short, I was curious to see what the improvements would be. ashmei’s revamp is a winner. The 2 in 1 is a lighter, better fitting short that has some worthwhile details baked in.

I will start with the outer 5″ short features. The stretch fabric material is wind resistant, water resistant, and designed to shed odor. There is a zippered pocket on the back which is large enough for a standard size iPhone. The drawstring stays tied and ads some flair to the design. The compression layer is laser cut for precision and made up from a blend of synthetics and wool which is naturally antimicrobial and excellent for moderating temperature. The whole package feels so much lighter than the original version. The 2 in 1 weighs 168 grams.

“These are perfect shorts for the trail! Having the wind protection over the compression is the bee’s knees.”  Sizes are fitted, I float between XS and Small. In these shorts, I am small. The XS was too small. –Meaghan

This short not only performs well, but it also looks stellar. The fit is athletic order up a size if you like a little more room. I haven’t tried the short in temps over 70º F, 21º C, I am not sure if they would be my first choice for HOT humid weather, although the compression liner could be very helpful at preventing chaffing. The ashmei 2 in 1 is PERFECT for spring running and transitioning from tights to shorts. I have the HAT 5ok coming up this March, and these shorts will be my first pick for the run. All of the products I have reviewed from ashmei have lasted multiple seasons. The extra cost of the gear is warranted. I am always surprised when a runner will spend $150 on a pair of shoes that they get 300-500 miles out of but balk at paying the same on gear that they will likely have for 5 or more years. SMH. Check out the ashmei site for more running and cycling gear.
