Puma Speed Ignite Netfit Review

The Good

Thomas: The Puma Speed Ignite Netfit turned more heads than almost any shoe I have worn this year. I got the question “whoa! Those are cool, what are they?” almost every time I wore them. Looking good is one thing, but performing is another. The Netfit performs as good as they look. I really like the evoKNIT upper. It is like a stretchy sock that gives the upper a perfect fit. In some ways, it reminds me of the Nike LunarEpic. It is my favorite feature of the shoe. The heel counter has some flocking with a bit of extra foam to really finish off the fit nicely.

The Ignite midsole provides a soft landing with a little bounce. There is plenty of Puma’s EverTrack+ on the outsole to provide traction and durability. The 6mm drop feels lower to the ground than the number indicates. The Netfit is a surprisingly fun shoe to run in.

Meaghan: PUMA running shoes have always fallen into the “good” not “great” category for me. This all changed with the Speed Ignite NETFIT. To start, the shoe is super cool looking. I dig the sock-like upper made from a netted mesh. The lacing system offers five different lacing strategies: standard, stability, wide foot, narrow foot and heel support. Basically, you can lace them up, however, the heck you want. Under the foot, the shoes feel great. The IGNITE foam is soft with a little bounce, and the blown rubber outsole provides tons of durability and traction. Overall it’s a really comfortable shoe.

The Bad

Thomas: It isn’t horrible, but for a “speed” shoe the Netfit needs to cut back on the carbs. For a size 10.5, the shoe weighs in at 10.7 oz. While the “net” on the NetFit looks cool, I found that using the traditional lacing worked out best for me. The evoKNIT upper does a nice job of getting the fit right. I was left wondering how would the shoe function without the net. I would love to hear from runners that the net lacing options worked for. Maybe it is just me that doesn’t need a lot of adjustments.

Meaghan: I had an issue with the collar rubbing against my Achilles, to the point where it caused quite a bit of bleeding. My pretty white and black shoes now have a red heel collar. TMI? The good news is that there are two proven fixes: wearing high socks or folding the mesh into the outer heel collar. I also have to note the weight. Not horrible, but 8.4 oz doesn’t fall into my optimal “anything under 8oz” category.

Puma Speed Ignite Netfit Conclusion

Thomas: I really like this shoe. There is enough cushion for longer runs, the fit just feels right, and who doesn’t like getting compliments on their footwear. The Speed NetFit retails for $140. I see the Netfit being popular with both runners and the fashion crowd.

Meaghan: Despite bleeding and blisters, I still love this shoe. I’m not sure I’d put them on for a race, but they’re perfect as an everyday trainer. They also will work for any foot type, whether you have flat wide feet like me or narrow high arches like Thomas. You should check them out.
