Skechers GOrun Ride Running Shoe Review – First Impression

This is the second shoe from Skechers I have been able to review. I literally pulled these out of the box, strapped them on and went for a 20 mile run in them. This review is based solely on this first run.

The good

The shoe is light for such a cushioned shoe with a roomy toe-box. The upper fits well and is designed to be worn with or without socks with an anti-microbial sockliner. I found it pretty remarkable that I could run 20 miles on the shoes right out of the box with no hot spots or blisters. Skechers offers the GOrun Ride in several color ways. If your after cushioning this shoe has it. A friend of mine who tried the shoes called it a “marshmallow of a shoe.” That can fall in either good or bad depending on what you like out of a shoe. The bump in the center of the sole could help you find your midfoot strike.

The Bad

The bump. It may be something I get used to as I put more miles on the shoes, but during the 20 miler I must have been tripped up by it over 5 times. I am guessing with the more minimal shoes I have been wearing I don’t lift my feet as much as I used to.

Overall

I give the GOrun ride high marks on the upper. I am holding out final judgment on the midsole. Right now I would say it’s too much midsole. I have a sneaking suspicion that the GOrun 2 will be the perfect mix between the GObionic and the GOrun Ride. The upper of the GOrun ride with the Midsole and sole of the GObionics could become a favorite shoe. The GOrun Ride is a great shoe for a runner that likes the comfort of a traditional trainer and is looking for a shoe to help them move to a midfoot strike. I look forward to mixing this shoe into my workouts and plan on putting many miles on these before I put them out to pasture.
