The HAT Run 50k

HatRunI recently signed up for my first 50k trail race in March 2010.  The course is mostly single track trail with a mix of open fields, dirt road and some paved road. The course features nearly 9,800 feet of climbing. There is a starting loop of 3.6 miles followed by two identical loops of 13.7 miles. There are 4 stream crossings that can be challenging depending on the water level – there is alway the chance of getting wet feet.”(excerpt from hatrun.com)  The race is sold out.  I know that Andy O. and Jeanne B. will be running it too.

Ok, you know I love the the gear, so after signing up for the the HAT I used a gift certificate to Dick’s to get a pair of new trail running shoes.  I picked up the Adidas Adizero XTs (Runner’s World pick for this years trail shoe.)  I haven’t run in them yet but they look great.

I am looking forward to this new challenge.  The training will help me stay focused and in shape over the winter.  I will need to be in great shape as I head into the training season for the GORE-TEX® TransRockies in August.

Training, Speed Work, Baltimore 10 Miler

I found out that the training program I was following was NUTS!  I am going back to the “Less is More Training” plan.  I used this plan when I trained for the National Marathon, it is a great training program.  I recommend it for anyone at any level, check it out.

I have been doing the Charm City track work outs with Juda on Tuesday nights.  Juda knows how to kick your ass, and you like her for it.  The group is made up by about 20 runners in flux every week.  It is a nice group of people from elite to newbie, best of all it is free. ” Those workouts give just as much back to me.”Juda Campbell McGannon

New Gear: Phiten Titanium

Believeintherun

Believeintherun

I am not sure about this one. I was reading an article on Kara Goucher in RunnersWorld and she mentioned that she now wears a Phiten titanium necklace after she saw Paula Radcliffe wearing one when she won the NYC Marathon. So I looked them up online and dismissed the idea that the necklace would help my energy flow.  However, this past Saturday I was down in Harbor East and poked my head in a City Sports. Right up front they had a new display with all the Phiten gear.

I purchased the necklace and went for my first run with it today. No magical energy flow yet, I will let you know if and when the power surge comes. Check them out for yourself and see if you get any tangible results.

Great story from Runners’ World

The Return of Boston Billy I pick up my Runners’ World magazine and read a story, article or even an advertisement every night before a run.  It just gets me fired up and ready to hop out of bed at 6 a.m.  The article on Boston Billy shows Bill as an everyday “one of us” runners that has achieved great acheivements in running.  He sounds like the kind of guy we would all like to run a mile with.  Check out the full story.

I have picked the training plan I will be using to train for the Oasis de Montreal Marathon September 13, 2009.  It looks like it will be challenging.
