Running Bio
I began my running career at the age of 35 by participating in the 5K portion of the Baltimore Running Festival. The gathering of all of those happy, healthy people was full of energy and excitement and I felt completely at home. I had been bitten by the running bug.
I told my friend Paul, “I think I will train for a 1/2 marathon.” His response was “Why don’t you just run a full marathon?”
The challenge of that first marathon forced me to think about training. I knew I wanted support – to surround myself with the same type of inspiring people I’d met at that first event. I joined a program through Charm City Run and hooked up with a great training group. They helped me prepare to complete my first Marathon in March of 2007.
Since then, I have run the Baltimore Marathon twice, the National Marathon twice, the Frederick Marathon, the Virginia Beach Shamrock Marathon, The Chicago Marathon, The North Face Challenge Trail Marathon, Grand Canyon Rim to Rim, HAT 50k Ultra-Marathon, The American Odyssey Relay, and numerous other 5k-20 mile races. Currently I am a member of the Dailymile Team, Team Nuun and the Baltimore Road Runners Club (BRRC).
Running has had a huge impact of my life; changing the way I approach any challenge. It opened my mind to the possibility that I’m capable of doing much more than I thought. I’ve embraced new adventures because of that confidence, and I find myself looking for the next big thrill.
My wife Cindy and I had a baby boy in late 2008, and I dream of the day when Theo and I can run an event together.
I’m now preparing for my most ambitious endeavor yet – the 2010 TransRockies Run. It’s going to be grueling, but the sense of accomplishment will be proportional to the effort. I have no doubt it will be an amazing adventure in beautiful surroundings, and I just hope to run well and finish strong.
Additionally, I have an aggressive goal to raise funds for the Baltimore Child Abuse Center. I aim to raise $100 per mile for a total donation of $11,300 that will support the organization, which is a lifeline for so many families in our city. My wife and I feel it’s important to support a local cause that makes a difference in the lives of so many children.
