5expSince I am in the dead space between training for my next event, I tried something new last week to add a twist to the regular runs.  I decided to run the exact same 5 mile route every day, and see what happened if I tweaked things during the run.  The results kinda surprised me.  Take a look:

  • Day 1 – 48 minutes
  • Day 2 – 47 minutes
  • Day 3 – the Garmin failed so I gave myself 47 minutes
  • Day 4 – 46 minutes
  • Day 5 – 47 minutes

The reason I am surprised is, I tried to pick it up in certain parts of the run, save the effort until later, start out slow, push on the downhills, and just run with more effort.  The results were about the same no matter what I tried.  I am at a loss.

So this week I am running with only a couple things in my head:

  1. Enjoy the run
  2. Run easy, run light, then try to increase the speed
  3. Pay attention to widening my stride

Simple, I am in between training, I am just going out there to enjoy the fresh air. This mornings run was a great run.  I do think it might be time for some new kicks.
