Asics DynaFlyte 2 Performance Review

The Good

Thomas: I am a big fan of the Roadhawk FF, and the DynaFlyte 2 shares a lot of the same characteristics including the Flytefoam in the midsole. Although they both use Flytefoam the cushioning on the DynaFlyte 2 is noticeably softer than the RoadHawk FF, due to the addition of Asics Gel in the heel. The DynaFlyte 2 reminds me of the Nike Pegasus. The Nike Pegasus and the DynaFlyte 2 ride very similar, and I would use them both the same way, they even weigh just about the same at 10.5 oz. for the Peg and 10.10 oz. for the Dynaflyte 2 in size 10.5. Both shoes are ideal for most of your training needs. You can use these for long runs, slow days, speed workouts, etc. If you aren’t interested in having several shoes in your closet, the Asics DynaFlyte 2 could cover your road running requirements. There is ample rubber on the outsole and the shoe’s durability won’t be an issue.

The upper was updated to make the shoe softer and more breathable than its predecessor. The fit is snug, on the more narrow side of the spectrum. I did not have any issues with the fit, and the shoe runs true to size. Running Warehouse reports the shoe running large and writes you should order a half size down, I did not find that necessary, but you may want to try on your regular size and a half size down.

Meaghan: I didn’t love this shoe out of the box, but after a few miles of wearing them in, they grew on me.  I received the white/blue colorway. It’s not a bad looking shoe. The upper is designed with a seamless mesh and secured down with a flat lacing system. It’s a plush feeling shoe with plenty of cushioning around the collar and tongue.

The midsole is made up of ASICS FlyteFoam, which gives the shoe some really nice cushioning without weighing it down. My W7.5 came in just under 8oz. The outsole is covered with durable rubber that feels pretty stiff at first, but that FlyteFoam and Rearfoot Gel cushioning add a nice layer to balance it out.

The Bad

Thomas: There isn’t too much to complain about with the DynaFlyte 2, the biggest issue I had was some heel lift. Other than that, it the shoe is durable and has a cushioned ride that isn’t too squishy.

Meaghan: This is a neutral daily trainer that lacks any sort of wow factors. It’s a quality shoe and has held up well after 60+ miles, but I can’t argue this is a better purchase than any of the other daily trainers out in the market right now.

The Asics DynaFlyte 2 Conclusion

Thomas: The DynaFlyte 2 is a solid trainer and is my second favorite FlyteFoam trainer. The simplicity of the RoadHawk FF edges out the DynaFlyte 2 for first place. If you like a softer ride, then you will prefer the DynaFlyte 2 over the Roadhawk. Either way, you will not be disappointed in this shoe. The Asics DynaFlyte 2 retails for $130.

Meaghan: I only packed two pairs of running shoes for my 10 day trip to Europe and the ASICS Dynaflyte 2 was one of them (the other was the Under Armour Bandit 3, if you’re curious). I packed this ASICS shoe because 1) I knew I wouldn’t be doing any speedwork on vaca and 2) I wanted a durable trainer.

The shoe performed well for what I needed, which was running wherever and whenever I could. In Ireland it was grass, mud and packed dirt; in London it was asphalt and in Paris it was cobble stones. I have never been of fan of ASICS but they’ve continued to impress me with their recent models. The ASICS Roadhawk FF is still my favorite of their shoes, but the Dynaflyte 2 has proven to be a solid daily trainer. For $130, you can test them out yourself.
